10 Reasons Why Films Are Better Than Books

August 19th 2009 07:15
Book Reading vs Film

1. Books are anti-social - you can't enjoy a book with a friend.

2. No book will ever star Chuck Norris. Except his Biography. And the film will be better.

3. Shawshank Redemption. (Explainatory blog to follow. I foresee comments.)

4. True, if there were a power cut, the movie would go down but, unlike book reading, at least you wouldn't be alone in the dark, with a candle, which is a fire hazzard.

5. Books don't have DVD extras.

6. There are maybe a handful of books I've read more than once. There are hundreds, if not thousands of films I've seen countless times and still enjoyed.

7. Books smell funny and collect dust.

8. Books are portable but an ipod touch fits in your pocket.

9. Who the hell downloads books? Show yourselves!!

10. I've seen many book adaptations that have encouraged me to read the books that I would have otherwise never read. Therefore films win. The End.

Marc, you're partially right about it, as not all the films are as good as the books did! Let's take an example. The Harry Potter series are totally stunning, but when it making into film, some people were very disappointed about it!

The people who were dissapointed were the fans of the books. The precious people.

I'm saying that films rule because many screen writers are much more well read than I and that I've read many superb books because of the movies that were made about them.

I love books but I also love films.

I'm 50/50 with your list but I agree with Wilson Pon that some books are much better than the film adaptation.

Cheers, Linh

I'm not disputing the fact that some books are far better than the movies, I'm just saying that for most people, those great books were probably brought to their attention through a movie, even if it was just referenced by a character and not an adaptation.

Movies are like the skin of the cultural fruit, that attracts us to the rich and satisfying art beneath the surface.

Also, some of my list is a little flippant, so don't take it too seriously.

Too silly for words.

But silly enough for four I'm glad to see. Cheers, Bryn. At least someone's not too pious to realise it's just a bit of fun.

Oh my, that made me giggle like crazy! Funny stuff...

And I intend not to reveal that I DO download books..I'll not be bullied into doing so!

I loved this post.

Thanks Natalina; if I'm being honest, and if I had the right gadget, I'd probably download books too.

I just download them to my desktop...or my PSP...

I mean, that's what I would do if I actually downloaded books, which I don't cause I'm not a NERD!

Hehehe Yeah right. I'm as nerdy as they get.
